Introduce your brand
The Outrunners is a grassroots organisation that tries to build connections in our community. It all started with a weekly running group.
Hackney is home to many young professionals, who join The Outrunners running group to improve their physical and mental wellbeing. Tyler, our founder, noticed there was an appetite from this group to get involved in and give back to their local community.
Mentoring
The Outrunners pairs our runners with young people to strengthen their fitness levels, boost confidence and expand their support network, whilst engaging in fun activities.
In addition to mentoring, the Outrunners also hosts career events and career mentoring programmes. Our youth board helps steer the direction of our organisation.
Our mission is to create a long-term positive impact on the lives of youngpeople.
What is mentoring?
Mentoring is about helping young people to develop more effectively. It is a relationship designed to build confidence, and support the mentee so they are able to take control of their own personal and social development.
Our 1:1 mentoring is designed to aid children in their transitional period from primary school to secondary school, this involves a social, sporting or running element. This begins as a three month trial period, extending to one year if the relationship is developing well (which we hope will continue long term).
The mentor and child/young person set a sporting goal together to:
Build confidence
Help develop life skills in managing stress, emotional regulation and well being
"Since J has joined the mentoring programme I have seen drastic changes in his behaviour, which at times can be challenging. The program offered has been a godsend I am so grateful to their commitment and they are always at the end of the phone offering their time and support"
